My Perception:
We visited this castle on my first (and so far, only) trip up to North Wales. We had spent all day driving out of South Wales, up through England, and back over in to North Wales (because that is actually the most efficient way to go from South to North Wales) and we arrived as the sun was thinking about starting to set and the sky was a lovely shade of pink. Of course, it was December in Wales, so it was probably only about 3 PM. And, of course, it was Wales so it was misting.
Wales. Rain. Pink skies. Castle ruins. Seaside town. Charm. These are a few of my favorite things.
The turrets are excellent. You and a friend can each climb to the top of a different and wave to each other.
If you are lucky, you might find an orange tabby cat trying to pounce on pigeons on archways.
You must walk around the town wall. You get beautiful views of the town and castle.
On my walk around the town I took my first ever feet photo. Nostalgia.
Conwy Castle is my favorite Welsh castle so far. Some day my mom will retire there and open a cute little B&B. She will theme the rooms after Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I will live in the Lovegood room with my pet rabbit and I will spend my days writing my own magical novels while rain taps on the windows, mom makes me coffee, and I drink* and type on my laptop while sharing a breakfast tables with guests enjoying California scrambles and Welsh cakes. Because, culture.
*the coffee. I’m not THAT kind of writer.
Grade: Conwy Castle gets 5/5 Castles for its grandeur, town wall, views, and its ability to inspire ideal lifestyle fantasies.

I fell in love with Welsh castles the first time I locked eyes on one in 2003. It’s been 12 years, and castles and I are still in out honeymoon phase! This post is part of a series called Castles in Wales. My goal is to visit (almost) all of the castles in Wales. Keep track of my progress here.
