Ever since 2012 I have taken part in Ali Edwards’ Project One Little Word. I love this practice because rather than making a list of goals that I will find irrelevant by February, I guide my year through an intention. A focus. A word. This gives me room to respond to my life as it changes while still maintaining purpose.
Some years this works better than others. The Year of Star (2012) was stellar.* The Year of Fit (2013) became more about fitting it all in than being fit. The Year of Love (2014) didn’t get much attention.
The Year of Go/Experience (2015)?
Nailed it!
And thus, my love letter to 2015.

Dear 2015,
Hello my love. Or, as I should probably prepare to say- goodbye.
You have been an absolutely gorgeous year.
In January, we went to Alcatraz and saw the AiWeiWei exhibit @Large. I wish it was still there so I could tell all of you to go see it.
In February, we saw Aziz Ansari perform live. He was hilarious, as expected.
In February I also got to go to the city that just sits there being awesome, and waiting for everyone else to notice. Rome, you are eternally living up to the hype.
In June, I went to London with some students. Highlight #1: BBC Studio Tour.
Highlight #2: My in-laws drove 4 hours to visit with me for 2 hours. You wish you had my in-laws. They are the best ever.
In July I went on local adventures with my bestie. We went to Lover’s Lane and the Wave Organ.
In July I lost my grandpa. He was my hero and I wish that I never had to let him go, but that is not how life works. His death did not contribute to this being an amazing year, but knowing him contributed to my amazing life.
In July my mom and I visited the historic, gorgeous, and delicious Chateau Montelena.
In November, my family from Wales surprised us for Thanksgiving.
All year long, I took solace in the magical and gorgeous place that repair my heart and ignites my soul- the Marin Headlands.
2015, you were full of opportunities to GO and EXPERIENCES that I will remember for a lifetime.
2015, you killed it.
